Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is called stainless steel not because it can’t stain at all (it would be pretty miraculous to find a metal that didn’t stain or mark ever) but because it resists corrosion and rust and some other stains more than regular steel. Stainless steel is not actually true steel, but a steel alloy, defined by the chromium content of the alloy. If it doesn’t have any chromium or doesn’t meet a certain amount then it’s not stainless steel it’s either regular steel or a different steel alloy.There are hundreds of different grades and finishes for stainless steel; these often vary based on either how much rust resistance you need your stainless steel to have (which is determined mostly by usage requirements) or by the particular look or feel you are going for with your stainless steel use or project.

What is stainless steel used for? Stainless steel is something that many of us think of as a construction material, and it has many uses in construction. But stainless steel has many other uses in our day to day lives. What else is stainless steel used in? Cutlery and other kitchenware, appliances, and increasingly in some types of jewelry. This is partly because some people find it to be aesthetically appealing, and some people like the tough-sounding aspect of wearing “stainless steel.” In addition stainless steel finds uses in parts of many other things like cars, hardware, and some types of storage tanks.In addition to this, what is stainless steel good for? It’s 100% recyclable, and it has been used in some modern and sculptural art, especially during the art deco period. You may also recognize certain uses of stainless steel from previous eras (think diners and restaurants of just a few decades ago). Then stainless steel was used not only for the outside, but sometimes for the interior and the tables and chairs.

Steel alloys were worked on and experimented with by several individuals and groups around the turn of the 20th century, and in the 1910’s several different patents in different countries were granted for stainless steel metal alloys. When stainless steel was originally being marketed and sold in the United States, however, it was under different names at first. So what is stainless steel; an important piece of American and world history with great practical use and viability still today.
